Mark Fitzpatrick has won his first Paul Stafford Medal on Saturday night.
Held at the Carina Bowls Club, the 2020/21 “Staffo” capped a difficult but successful year for the club, defying their off-season dramas to have all four teams make the semi-finals. While none of them made their grand finals, it was still a fantastic achievement considering the circumstances.
Fitzpatrick polled 21 votes, with Jakson Thiele (15) finishing second and Nitin Kashyap and Chris Dishot (14) tied for third.
Playing most of the season in C grade, Fitzpatrick bowled nearly 200 overs in 14 games, taking 44 wickets at 11.6, with best bowling figures of 6-62.
Game milestone keyrings were awarded to Rod Taylor (300 games), Ricky Carruth (150), and Kashyap (100), while Nick Bartlett (A1 round 14) and Nathaniel Chidgey (B3 round one) were recognised for their hat-tricks.
Other major milestones for the season included 1,000 club runs for Brad Ackermann and Josh Saul; 650 club wickets for club president Marc Fidler; 150 club wickets for Fitzpatrick and Bartlett; 50 club wickets for Liam Murry, Greg Melton, and Liam Fogarty; 150 club dismissals for Paul Cho; and 50 club dismissals for Carruth.
